I invite all Physiotherapy professionals and students to visit our unique, innovative and comprehensive D. Y. Patil Simulation and Skills Center and review the educational opportunities we can offer.
The World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT) states that students must be guaranteed clinical interaction opportunities, which should always be accompanied by qualified professionals. Simulations can be linked to this process strongly, as controlled scenarios promote clinical reasoning, and theoretical information can be used to consolidate learning.
Simulations are effectively used as a pedagogic tool that enables students to hone their treatment decision-making skills for patients. It is a potential strategy for developing diverse skills focused on the safety of the patient and the therapist.
Simulations in physiotherapy have been widely used for cardio respiratory practice for training specific manual skills and decision-making processes in intensive care units. Students trained with simulation develop better results in manual and instrumental procedures in general. Additionally, clinical simulations have demonstrated that students improve ‘confidence in clinical skills, clinical decision-making, treatment preparation and planning, communication skills, evaluating and modifying interventions, and inter-professional practice’.
I thank Simulation and Skills Centre and its staff for including all Physiotherapy staff and students in simulated training and wish them all the very best to for their future endeavors.
